I planned on Stoic Rebuttal over Cancel, per the suggestion, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Dissipate. Lingering Souls is pretty common online it seems. Not to mention Snapcaster and other annoying shenanigans involving decaying corpses. Having a 1-shot answer to that would be nice, but we will see how things pan out with this list. Ok, so for the record, here's the build as it stands now:

Did you catch my derp in the last post? Put Vapor Snare instead of Vapor Snag... it actually took me a bit to figure out why I had 5 CMC spells in my deck.
Stoic Rebuttal or Dissipate...either, but no Cancel.
ReplyDeleteWhy not a 4th Pike? The stalkers are nice, but hitting for 1 damage every turn is not going to win you the game. They need equipment to do real damage.
I am not sure you have the spells to support your Pikes. Almost half of your spells are counter spells. The Pike is awesome, but it needs Thought Scours or Gitaxian Probes to feed it.
Counting Vault Skirge, you have 12 1 drops. You need something more beefy in there there finish the match.

ReplyDeleteYou don't have to worry about mana color issues. With so many 1 drops, you will surely be the early beat down. With your curve so low, you will have mana to spare come round 4.
I agree with pretty much everything. Too many 1-drops, not enough spells to support the Pikes, and a big fat goose egg on the 'finisher' front. I've played two games with the decklist above, and both of them have been disastrous. One against the mirror was a complete failure. My Vault Skirges turned into a liability because they made excellent Vapor Snag targets. This build seems worse than my original.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I can do the Contest War Zones... too many decks online are running Lingering Souls... it would be an easy way for me to get overrun, and end up screwing myself over when I need that land drop.
